Many Christians quietly wrestle with, one of the most powerful forces shaping the human heart, one that whispers of rejection, failure, and punishment and that is fear. It can even enter in our relationship with God…fear of judgment, fear of not measuring up, fear of disappointing God. The good news is that, even in the midst of these anxieties, in 1 John 4:18, the apostle John offers a profound and liberating truth:
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
The punishment has to do with the Day of Judgement when all people will appear before Christ and be held accountable for their actions.
2 Corinthians 5:10 says, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
I hope you all hear that verse, receive it and take it seriously because it is going to happen!
NOW, If you are saved, if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, if you are a child of the Most High, you have nothing to fear, you should have no dread and all confidence in the face of judgement because you have been saved from punishment. As a matter of fact, we are already given permission and the privilege to approach Him, Hebrews 4:16 says Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
You should already know Him and be in a relationship with Him…close, connected and communicating with Him daily, including reading His Word and listening to Him! I call this life the horizontal, which is temporary, but the vertical, your relationship with Jesus, is eternal! In Him is life and we get to spend eternity with Him!
John 14:3 AMP says, And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.
1 John 5:11-13 AMP says, 11 And the testimony is this: God has given us eternal life [we already possess it], and this life is in His Son [resulting in our spiritual completeness, and eternal companionship with Him]. 12 He who has the Son [by accepting Him as Lord and Savior] has the life [that is eternal]; he who does not have the Son of God [by personal faith] does not have the life.13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God [which represents all that Jesus Christ is and does], so that you will know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have eternal life.
In view of these verses, you should be looking forward to the Day of Judgement because it will mean you get stand before Jesus Christ, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and according to scripture He is also you Big Brother (Colossians 1:15), your Friend (John 15:13-15) and Co-heir (Romans 8:17) and now you get to be in His presence face to face! What a wonderful and glorious day that will be, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE! Having said all of that, my brothers and sisters, be perfected in love. Christ’s love for you and your love for Him should cast out any and all fears!
