There is nothing quite like the peace and contentment that comes from the awareness of the presence of God.
The scene in Matthew chapter 8 is Jesus is in the boat asleep, the disciples had witnessed Him do many miracles…Including cleansing a leper, healing a centurion’s servant, healing Peter’s mother-in-law and cast out evil spirits from many who were demon-possessed.
In Matthew 8: 23-26 it says, 23 Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
Now, let me stop for a second… The Disciples had been with Him all day so they must have been tired also. As His FOLLOWERS…now get this… they should have Followed His example and just went to sleep also. But, that’s another lesson…back to scripture
25 The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
This teaches us about focus and trust. Regardless of the circumstance, but especially when we have problems…where is our focus and Who do we trust. It’s not the absence of problems, but the presence of God.
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) says, You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
It’s not about why, how, when or where, but Who! This idea encourages a shift in focus from trying to eliminate problems to seeking and trusting in God’s presence to navigate them. You can be content in Christ regardless of your circumstances.
In Philippians 4:11-13, the Apostle Paul wrote: I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
My friend, Paul wrote this from a prison cell! Which emphasizes that his contentment was not dependent on his external situation but on his relationship with Christ.
Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
True peace only comes from knowing God is with you in the midst of problems, not from the absence of problems. Please know and receive this truth…peace is not, necessarily, a problem-free environment, but rather the ability to remain calm and centered because of God’s presence.
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble
This perspective suggests that peace is a state of mind found in God’s company, even when facing difficulties, rather than a situation free of trouble. It’s a concept rooted in the idea that God’s presence can bring comfort, strength, and a stable posture in the face of life’s storms.
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Finally, Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) says,
You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
The next time you have a problem, trial, issue or any other kind of challenge in your life, pray to Him, invite Him, cast your worries and your cares on Him. Then, by faith, trust Him and focus on His presence, provision, protection and promises. He is a very Big God, compared to Him all of your problems are very, very small, He’ll answer your call and won’t let you fall,
